FAQ

Most Frequently Asked Questions for Mental Health Counseling

What is mental health counseling?

Mental health counseling is a collaborative process where a trained counselor helps individuals address emotional, mental, and sometimes behavioral issues. The goal is to help people understand their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, and learn coping strategies.

What issues can mental health counseling help with?

Counseling can be beneficial for a range of issues including anxiety, PTSD, depression, stress, relationship problems, grief, addiction (including medical marijuana use for therapeutic purposes), trauma, and other psychological or emotional challenges.

How does counseling differ from talking to a friend or family member?

While friends and family offer great support, a mental health counselor provides unbiased, professional guidance. They're trained to offer therapeutic techniques based on psychological principles to help you navigate your mental health issues effectively.

How long does therapy last?

The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs, however, ARCannabisClinic Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) offer 60 minute sesson per visit.  Some people find relief in a few sessions, while others may need longer-term support. It's a very personal journey and is tailored to each individual's unique situation.  At ARCannabisClinic we offer flexible duration.  You can see and visit with your counselor/therapist as you need.

What are the steps to visit with your counselor?

There are three steps to visit with your therapist:

1. Book a Counselor Screening appointment

2. Pay online

3. Sign an Online Consent Form (a link will be emailed to you upon payment)

4. A mental health counselor will visit with you at your appointment time.

*IMPORTANT* A mental health counselor cannot visit with you until a correct consent form is signed AND your payment is made in full. Please note each appointment type has it's own unique consent form that MUST be signed by you BEFORE your appointment.

Is everything I say in therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Information shared in counseling sessions is kept private, with a few legal exceptions regarding safety concerns.

What's the difference between a counselor, a psychologist, and a psychiatrist?

Counselors focus on providing guidance and support. Psychologists have specialized training in psychological testing and research in addition to therapy. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication and also offer therapy.

How do I know if I need counseling?

If you're struggling with your mental or emotional health and it's affecting your daily life, it might be helpful to seek counseling. It's a proactive step for anyone seeking to improve their mental well-being.

Can counseling help with medical marijuana use for mental health?

Counselors can help navigate the emotional and psychological aspects of medical marijuana use, particularly if it's being used to manage symptoms of a mental health condition. However, they can't prescribe medication nor give product recommendations.  If you need medical marijuana therapy, please click here

Do you accept insurance?

No, we do not accept insurance. Our services are available on a direct-pay basis.

What are the advantages of paying out-of-pocket for mental health counseling, instead of using insurance?

Paying out-of-pocket for mental health services can offer several advantages:

  1. Privacy and Confidentiality: When you don't use insurance, your therapy sessions and diagnoses do not get reported to the insurance company. This means greater privacy, as your records remain solely between you and your counselor.

  2. No Need for a Diagnosis: Insurance companies often require a diagnosis for coverage. By paying out-of-pocket, you can receive counseling without having to label your concerns as a specific mental health disorder.

  3. More Control Over Your Therapy: You have the freedom to choose your therapist and the type and length of therapy, without being restricted by the terms of your insurance coverage.

  4. Flexibility in Session Frequency and Duration: You can decide how often and for how long you want to attend therapy sessions, rather than adhering to limits set by insurance plans.

  5. Avoiding Insurance Claims and Paperwork: Paying directly bypasses the often complex and time-consuming process of filing insurance claims and dealing with potential denials or delays in coverage.

Does paying out-of-pocket affect the quality of the counseling services I receive?

The quality of counseling services does not depend on whether you pay out-of-pocket or through insurance. However, paying out-of-pocket can sometimes provide more flexibility in choosing a counselor who best fits your needs, regardless of their insurance network affiliations.

Is paying out-of-pocket feasible for everyone seeking mental health counseling?

While paying out-of-pocket offers certain benefits, we understand It's important to consider your budget and financial situation.  ARCannabisClinic offer 0% interest free financing which can make out-of-pocket payments more accessible.

How does out-of-pocket payment benefit the therapeutic relationship?

When clients pay out-of-pocket, it often creates a sense of greater investment in the therapy process. This can enhance the therapeutic relationship, as clients might be more motivated and committed to the counseling process.

Can I still receive high-quality counseling if I don’t use insurance?

Absolutely. The quality of counseling is determined by the therapist’s qualifications and your commitment to the process, not by the payment method.  Our highly experienced Licensed professionals are ready to help you within minutes.

🤷‍♂️ I have more questions, can you help?
